Pine Creek Railroad : New Jersey
Area Mountain Bike Trails: New Jersey
Travel back in time to the height of the steam era of railroading in the United States. The Pine Creek Railroad, established in 1953 and operated by the New Jersey Museum of Transportation, uses live-steam and diesel narrow-gauge trains. The museum is an independent, volunteer-operated organization that is dedicated to the preservation, education and interpretation of railroad history for future generations. It is one of the oldest all volunteer railroad operations in the country.
Train excursions using vintage steam or diesel locomotives run on weekends between March and December. Among the theme rides are the "Easter Express", "Great Train Robbery", "Railroader’s Weekend" and "Haunted Nights Express". Call ahead to check the status of these special rides. "Everyday Summer Fun" rides run daily in July and August.
Allaire State Park is home to the historic 19th century ironmaking town of Allaire Village and the antique trains of the Pine Creek Railroad. See a variety of locomotives including gas, diesel and steam. Explore the car barn, engine house, watchman’s shanties and the old Freneau Station (from the Central RR of New Jersey).
