General Description:

Nestled amongst the rolling farmland of south-central Pennsylvania, in a small valley along the east branch of Codorus Creek is the 868 acre Spring Valley County Park.

Comprised of woods and old agricultural fields, the park features a catch-and-release "Fish for Fun", one acre fishing pond surrounded by large blackberry bushes, a trout stream, horse show rings in which numerous equestrian shows are held during the spring and summer and a small network of multi-use trails which mountain bikers are welcome to explore. Picnic tables and pavillions are also available.

There's Gold In Them Thar Hills!
Combine a day of biking and gold prospecting. Gold is always exciting to find, no matter where the world it is. Did you know that gold was discovered on the East Coast before the 1849 gold rush on the West Coast? In the East Branch of the Codorus Creek, which flows through the park, gold can be found often in the sediment.

The annual gold panning seminar, hosted by the York County Department of Parks and Recreation on the last Saturday of July from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM. attracts nearly 250 people every year. Then, visitors pan for gold in the clean waters of the east branch of the Codorus Creek and usually find a few flakes. Mmmmmm. I wonder if I can find enough gold to buy that new bike I've had my eye on or at the very least, a new set of disc brakes.

The Trails:

There are over five miles of well-maintained multi-use dirt single-track trails throughout the park. Horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking are permitted on all trails. However, even on a relatively "busy" weekend, the trails are not crowded.

This is a great place for beginners who will find it challenging in sections of rocky trail and short steep climbs. More advanced riders will enjoy the tight single-track. Do several loops, not necessarily all in the same direction for maximum workout and thrills.

Trails are closed to mountain biking and horseback riders during "wet conditions," as determined by park rangers. For current conditions, call the Parks Office at (717) 840-7440 for trail updates (available 24 hours a day), or refer to trail open/closed signs located along park entrance areas.
